Check your motor mounts. Replace them if worn out. Your everything will thank you. I just replaced the two torque mounts on my 98 Civic 5-speed and shifting is so much smoother, as is decelerating. Before the car would shudder and lurch when starting out and shifts to 2nd were neck-snapping, but now all is buttery-smooth. I’m pleased, and it was a very easy job (two bolts and a nut for each side, and loosen the two upper motor mounts).

And buy good quality, even dealer, parts for engine mounts.

congrats, very nice when a relative easy fix makes such a big difference - early Mazda 3s are subject to the same issue..

Story time.

Back when I auto-xed the metro I had a clunk under acceleration. I was working out of town so took it to a shop. Replaced a CV joint, still happening. I decided F-it I planned on driving it till it blew up so I guess I only got 1 year out of a $800 car.

Soon after I'm changing my oil I looked down and the trans mount on passenger side from had 2 bolts backed out & sheared off the other one. That what made the clunk on acceleration. Back to a shop, local this time, had them replace the bolts, no more problems. Well other problems, no more problems with that.
